Celebrating Love at Idiom Wines: Dieko and Emma’s Spectacular South African Wedding

When you combine a breathtaking location, a couple as vibrant as Dieko and Emma, and a guest list that traveled across continents to celebrate, you know you’re in for an unforgettable wedding day.
Last Saturday, I had the immense pleasure of capturing a wedding that perfectly balanced sophisticated elegance with a high-energy party atmosphere. The setting? The incredible Idiom Wines, a venue perched high on a hill with panoramic views of the Helderberg basin and the dramatic mountain ranges that surround it. This Idiom wedding, you really can't ask for a more picturesque backdrop.
From South Africa to Amsterdam and Back Again
Emma, originally from Cape Town, and Dieko, who hails from the Netherlands, have a story that has come full circle. They first met right here in South Africa, fell in love, and eventually moved to Amsterdam where they have built a successful life together.
Seeing them return to Emma’s roots for their wedding was special. Their friends and family made the journey from Amsterdam and various parts of the Netherlands to join the local Cape Town crowd, creating a wonderful fusion of cultures and a truly global celebration.
A Day of Laughter and Legacy
This wedding felt like a reunion for me, too. I had the privilege of photographing Emma’s sister’s wedding about four years ago, and catching up with the family again was a highlight. There is something so rewarding about being invited back to document another chapter in a family’s history.
The day was filled with exactly what makes a wedding great: heartfelt (and hilarious) speeches, world-class food, and a constant stream of laughter. Both Dieko and Emma are the kind of people who make friends wherever they go—usually on the dance floor!
A Party for the Ages - Idiom Wedding
While it started as a beautiful day wedding, the energy shifted seamlessly into a legendary celebration. This was a "super fun" crowd in every sense of the word. I’m told the dancing continued well into the early hours of the next morning, fueled by great music and the infectious joy of the newlyweds.
Dieko and Emma, thank you for allowing me to document your day. It was a true privilege to see two people so successful in their careers stay so grounded and devoted to their friends and family. Your Idiom wedding was one for the books!
