Hentie & Jade
I clearly remember the first wedding where I got to work with Jade. I sensed something different. Apart from it all being absolutely exceptional, Jade personally checked on me to see if I was okay. She even made sure we got well fed while the guests ate so that we could be ready for the next item on the timeline. Her personal touch and real care made me as (just) a service provider feel valued and important. So much so, that I went home that evening with a sense of pride in my work in that I knew I gave it all. Someone knew and acknowledged my 110%.
The next week one of my most clever friends phoned me to ask if I knew Jade. He interviewed her as part of product research. He mentioned that she really stood out for him out of all the interviews. At that stage I learned she was not only coordinating events, but also teaching others to do so at the SA School of Weddings. I was inspired by this girl!
So you can imagine how chuffed I was when this bright and talented girl chose me a few years later to photograph her wedding! (Perhaps she contacted others who were already booked, I don’t know. But, I got to do it!!).
I finally met Hentie at their arty Engagement Shoot in Woodstock earlier this year. I loved his down to earth character and thought they were an awesome match. Here I brought it under their attention that their wedding was planned for the date of the Rugby World Cup Final. When the Springboks lost in the semis the weekend before her wedding, I thought of at least one happy lady in Africa …
It was an absolute honour to capture this stunning emotional event.
